I’m Matthew, founder of Matthew’s Greeting Cards. From a young age I’ve always had a keen interest in creativity, writing and design. As a child I fondly remember doodling in school and being excited when asked to write a short story in English class.
I went on to get a diploma in Graphic Design and later a degree in Video and Film Production from the University of Wolverhampton.
I love language, art and storytelling and believe we have a wealth of beautiful, funny and unique traditions here in Ireland. I’m passionate about keeping the vernacular/sayings of Ireland alive by capturing them in my greeting cards.
I specialise in illustration and logo design, along with videography and editing. You can explore a broader range of my media and logo projects in my portfolio.
Matthew’s Greeting Cards was born from my frustration of not being able to find a ”Ma” Birthday Card, it’s that simple. Where I come from we don’t say Mam, Mum or Mom it’s ”Ma”. When it came to buying a card with that word, I found myself having to settle, buying generic or plain cards and modifying them myself. That’s when I realised that this kind of vernacular is underrepresented in the greeting card space and I feel there’s a room for a more diverse vernacular to be used to reflect how we actually speak. Matthew’s Greeting Cards exists to change that by creating cards that reflect how we talk to one another.
